If it’s one thing my home state of Connecticut does right, it’s pizza and gas stations.
I go to school in way up state NY and one thing I ve noticed, is that none of the pumps have locks on them. What the hell? 4 hours into a 6 hour drive to Clarkson, and I need to stop and get gas. Of course now it’s the middle of winter, and it’s - 17 f out. I don’t have my gloves with me of course. I start pumping and it’s so cold my hand litteraly hurts. Like, in pain. Screw your bullshit, I’m jamming my gas cap in there before my hand falls off.
In CT we at least have the trigger locks like normal people.
There is litteraly no good reason for this.

There is one good reason. In the event of a fire or an accident it would be very easy for a pump to get stuck on and no one would be able to stop it from pumping gas into the fire. Having it turn off unless you’re standing there is like a safety shut-off.
Not saying it’s a good idea, but that’s the reason.
Where I live I think it’s illegal to lock your pump like that. We get by, but it doesn’t get below 0 here.

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal in NY too, but when your hands still hurt 15 minutes after your back in the car, never again.

Probably a terrible idea, but when I lived in Florida, I just wedged my gas cap in the handle. It worked, as long as you paid attention.

CT? Better pizza than NY??
That’s cute, but anyway. Just wedge the gas cap or your wallet (if no one’s around) in there.

Is Full service not available in the winter where you are?
Also, another good reason is to prevent the chance of accidentally getting static charge on yourself by forcing you to stay out of your car. Static discharge has been an issue with pump fires, to my understanding.

There’s one area in new Haven, that has Sally, pepe’s, and Modern apizza, 3 of the best pizza places in the world within a mile (pepes and Sally’s are litteraly on the same block. It’s pretty magical.

Except for the station attendant who can remotely shut off all of the pumps with the press of a button. And there’s a second shut-off switch outside for the customers to use, too.
I only ever had to shut off one pump, because some idiot decided it was okay to smoke while getting gas, but it was pretty immediate. I pressed the button and instantly heard his pump click off.

I will literally fight you if you say CT has good pizza again. I moved from NY to CT and it’s awful.

Uhh... Clarkson University, in Potsdam, NY.
Though being an engineering school, world’s largest supplier of idiots with hammers may still apply.

Especially since its 55 everywhere up there, including roads that’d be 25 down here. God bless em.

True, that’s a pretty good system. Not as fast as having the pump immediately click off, but it’s probably worth it for convenience.

Lol, my area has locks. Teaches you to go up by Potsdam! ;)
